  • Improve identification of cardiac rhythms that require attention in the sleep lab.

This presentation will review the literature describing treatment of cardiac arrythmias in the sleep lab and will incorporate a discussion about the impact of comorbid health conditions such as central sleep apnea with comorbid heart failure in the presence of co-morbid health conditions.  With development of new and improved therapies for management of cardiac arrythmias increases the management options of cardiovascular risk factors for both primary and secondary prevention.    This presentation will review the literature describing treatment of cardiac arrythmias in the sleep lab and will incorporate a discussion about the impact of comorbid health conditions such as central sleep apnea with comorbid heart failure in the presence of co-morbid health conditions.  With development of new and improved therapies for management of cardiac arrythmias increases the management options of cardiovascular risk factors for both primary and secondary prevention.

Access to the webinar advances the providers’ understanding of the clinical presentation matched with the diagnostic testing that is needed to appropriately refer the patient to a specialist for management of sleep dysfunction with co-morbid diseases to include cardiovascular disease.  Ultimately, this clinical knowledge will improve practice outcomes for providers who collaborate with the sleep specialists to clinically manage sleep disorders.

About the Presenter:

Barbara Hutchinson, M.D., Ph.D., FACC

Barbara Hutchinson, M.D., Ph.D., FACC is currently the President of Chesapeake Cardiac Care in Annapolis, Maryland. She is Board Certified in both Cardiovascular Disease and Sleep Medicine. Born in Trinidad & Tobago, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of the West Indies, a Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and her M.D. and Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Dr. Hutchinson is a Brava Award winner, an Enterprising Woman of the Year Award Winner, member of the Enterprising Women Advisory Board, and Past President of the Association of Black Cardiologists.  She is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and she was appointed to the Cardiovascular Examination Writing Committee for the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, she serves on several nonprofit boards including Women Presidents Organization and Heart Health Foundation.
